Hoops

The Obamas are in Europe--wonder what that's about--so he's missing the Final Four over the weekend. What could be more important than that?

A lot of people (including Barack) were surprised to see Villanova and Michigan State in it, with North Carolina and UConn. I hate to say it, but Villanova didn't surprise me. I was rooting for Pitt, and that was an awful way to lose (watching a drive all the way to the basket with 5 seconds left after they'd just tied the game.) But Pitt's habit of playing just well enough to win was going to come back to haunt them sooner or later. They did get into the Elite Eight for the first time in school history, so congratulations for that. (And congrats to Penn State for winning the NIT!)

Still, I don't see Nova getting past North Carolina. Now that Michigan State is in it, you have to give them the edge against UConn, if only based on emotion: theirs and Michigan's, since their game will be played there. That's a state that could use some good news.

North Carolina is still the team to beat. Right, Barack? Oh, right, you're busy.
