Good Morning, Iraqnam!

Fifteen political groups in Iraq calling for a six month postponement of January 30 elections (see this story for details:) The New York Times > International > Middle East > 15 Iraqi Political Groups Call for Delaying Elections joins other tragic happenings and portents, as reality rapidly catches up to the fundamental folly of Iraqnam.

Having turned Fallujah into the rubble of a vast charnel house, the U.S. military is reportedly about to request a few thousand more combat troops be sent to Iraqnam. Insurgencies continue to reap havoc in other cities, including Baghdad, and the country remains in chaos. The U.S. appears no closer to success in its Iraqification policy process.

Meanwhile, thanks to the Bushwar costs and the extravagant tax giveaway to the obscenely wealthy and the resulting titanic deficits, the U.S. dollar is falling, taking with it the Bush Empire, even before the Emperor is re-crowned.

Let the last word for now be given to someone who is there, the author of the blog Baghdad Burning, which remains an excellent, heart-breaking, direct source for what's happening there. Her November 4 post reads:
To the red states (and those who voted for Bush): You deserve no better- I couldn't wish worse on you if I tried. He represents you perfectly... and red really is your color. It's the color of the blood of thousands of Iraqis and by the time this four-year catastrophe in the White House is over, thousands of Americans, likely. To the blue states (and those who were thinking when they voted): Condolences. Good luck- you'll need it.
